Nemu

   Demigods of the Kai tribe of New Guinea who inhabited the world before the present race, whom they created. They were stronger and more powerful than the black and white men who followed them. They discovered edible fruits, agriculture, and house building. They made bananas ripen gradually instead of in bunches as before and prevented houses from moving about. At first it was always day, but they told the sun to go down in the evening to give time for sleep. When they died they became blocks of stone or animals. At the end they were all destroyed by a great flood.
